8″ x 5″, pencil & watercolour
One of the many “paint by number” trees that I saw in New York City. So named by myself because their peeling, blotchy, coloured bark reminds me of the paint by number kits that my father used to buy for me to work on.

3″ x 5″, pen & pencil crayon
This past fall I finally got a chance to see what Brussels Sprouts look like when they grow. It was a complete revelation to see that they grow with a slight spiral twist on stalks. I did a quick sketch of it in my new Moleskine sketchbook at the time and only just got around to completing it recently. You could say that I was kind of too chicken to mar the new Moleskine, but now I’m over it.
I cook my Brussels Sprouts cut in half and braised in a bit of water until just tender. Then I saute them with some salted butter and a bit of the remaining cooking liquid until they’re cooked through. Sprinkled with a bit of salt and pepper they taste amazingly fresh and delicious and not overcooked and sulphurous.
