Small Jar of Marmite

small jar of marmite

5″ x 8″, pen & watercolour

A rough little watercolour of a small jar of Marmite.  Sometimes I just feel like having a little something savoury for breakfast with my tea — mmmm, umami.  A little bit of Marmite on top of hot buttered toast is the tops, some days.  And great for afternoon snacks, too!

Little Van

Little Van

5″ x 8″, pencil, pen & watercolour, Moleskine watercolour book

I spotted this little van last month during the Queen West Art Crawl.  It even had little pylons out back!  I have no idea what kind of vehicle it was, but it kind of reminded me of a 2CV, which in turn reminds me of Lloyd Cole’s 2CV song.

Cafe St. Paul Sign

Cafe St. Paul Sign

9″ x 12″, pencil, watercolour & pen

I just made crepes again recently and thought about the place that first inspired me to make them — it was a place in Old Montreal called Cafe St. Paul.  My husband and I were there a few times for breakfast during our honeymoon in 2006.

The place was easy for us to find as it wasn’t far from our hotel by the water and because it had a very large and easy to find sign.  A few of the pictures we took were of the sign and of me standing below it.  You can’t tell from looking at the sketch, but the sign was easily about 4 feet wide.
